Before I go into hibernation with my new X-Box over Christmas, here is a quick update on what I’ve been up to over the closing months of 2015!

Since August I’ve been working on a fairly massive front-end development project which has just gone live. It’s been the biggest project I’ve undertaken since becoming self employed and I’m certainly proud the work I’ve done and pleased about how much I’ve learnt along the way.

As well as giving Advanced Custom Fields and inline SVGs a good workout, I’ve also learnt a lot more about PHP in general and I even delved into the exciting world of server side PDF generation using FPDF (OK, exciting might be an exaggeration). Of course, I also got to put some of my website optimisation tips into practice!

Unfortunately the project is under an NDA I can’t actually share the finished results, boo-urns!

Autumn Conferences

Away from my laptop, I’ve visited some great front-end developer conferences in Manchester this Autumn. UpFront Mini and WordCamp Manchester both featured a whole host of inspirational speakers.

I even got to do a bit of speaking myself in September at McrFRED discussing my experiences as a freelance front-end developer which was great fun! Thanks again to Simon Owen for inviting me along.

Coming up in 2016

Having spent so much time coding over the latter part of 2015 I’m very much looking forward to stretching my design muscles again in the new year. Thankfully the web design gods have been generous enough to line me up with some fantastic new projects with some great people over the coming months!

I’m delighted that I will be working with the team from Seven Miles Out helping with their important work within the Stockport community. I’m also incredibly pleased to be joining up again with Kevin from KGC Engineering on his exciting new venture, North Western Models.

As of December I have now been in business for 18 months! I feel I’ve proved to myself now that I can be self employed so and I’m looking forward to tackling 2016 with a clear head and deciding where to take the business next!

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a healthy 2016!
