Boardmasters Pirates

The scourge of the seven seas enjoying the sun in Cornwall. Ahhh me hearties!!

As I reluctantly switched on the central heating yesterday I realised that Autumn is upon us! I decided before diving into my next project I’d take a few minutes to look back over the summer months!

It’s now been three months since I celebrated a year in business and there’s a definite feeling of change in the air around Stockport Old Town, with many friends and family members moving onto exciting new chapters in their lives.

I myself have finally settled into freelance life. I feel more organised in scheduling and planning work and I’ve began seeing an accountant to help get my money in order and pay my tax return. I even managed to take a bit of time off over the summer to sit in a field and dress like a pirate at Boardmasters Music Festival!

Whilst my projects have mostly moved towards development work in recent months, I’ve enjoyed designing and building several sites over the summer. These include a water colour themed website for the Manchester jazz folk trio HelenMaryG and a tasty looking offering for the Stockport cake maker extraordinaire Wonderland Cakes.

I’m now looking to embark on my two biggest front end development projects to date which between them should keep me busy until the end of the year.

Finally, I’m very pleased to announce that I will be talking at Manchester’s front end developer meet up MCR_Fred 30 on Thursday September 24th. I will be discussing my move from working as a web designer/front end developer in a digital agency to becoming self employed. Not only is this my first time speaking at an event like this, it also extra special because I was inspired to work for myself after visiting the MCR_Fred 9 freelance event back in 2013 so hopefully I can pass on some useful information to others thinking about doing the same thing!

If you are a web designer or developer thinking of taking the plunge into freelance life, feel free to ask me a question and I’ll try to cover it in my talk! As ever, you can also find me on Twitter and Facebook.
